  Most everywhere you may want to go is reachable via public transportation.

  • The CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) has maps and schedules for elevated/subway trains and bus routes in all areas of the city
  • For suburban travel, visit the Metra train Website and Pace bus Website for routes and schedules
  • Cold? Use Chicago's underground Pedway system. Visit Mark Spiegl's Chicago Pedway site for a great map.
  • None of these work for you? Take a cab.
• Take a Walk
  Chicago's a great walking city, with miles of lakefront, 552 parks, 7300 acres of parkland, and lots of fascinating sights in between.
  • Chicago Park District site lists all the parks, history, and provides a MapQuest map for you.
  • Visit the city's fabulous map service by Geographic Information Systems. Includes fabulous aerial views of the city as taken in the Spring of 2004. Or try Google's awesome mapping service.
  • Pick up a book and take your own tour: Gerard R. Wolfe's Chicago In and Around the Loop: Walking Tours of Architecture and History is one of the best. If you have an account, use Amazon.com's "search inside this book" feature for specific locations or buildings.
