On a recent trip to the Lower West Side community area, we nabbed these photos of both the Chicago Arts District area of Pilsen as well as many of the beautiful murals and mosaics in the Hispanic Pilsen East/Little Village area.
Relocated from its original South Loop location in 1912, Chicago's Chinatown area has grown in the intervening years to a current population of over 10,000 (with another 10,000 Chinese now dwelling in neighboring Bridgeport). We were fortunate enough to be able to take a Chinatown walking tour given by Z.J. Tong, founder and head of the Chicago Chinese Cultural Institute.
A few views of the Illinois Institute of Technology campus. IIT has a master plan to renovate many Mies van der Rohe buildings on campus. Shots here include the first new buildings on campus in about 40 years -- the McCormick Tribune Student Center, designed by Rem Koolhaas, and State Street Village, student housing designed by Helmut Jahn.
